Three Swedish and Nordic records in one day! Coach Glen Christiansen loves a good challenge. Last Saturday he decided to enter the annual International Christmas Invitational in the city of Kiel in northern Germany. He only swims a few competitions per year so the goal was clear: to swim as many Swedish and Nordic records as possible in the 4 races he entered that day. Interesting enough the records didn´t come in his main events, the 50m and 100m breaststroke but in freestyle! In the first event, 200m freestyle, he lowered the record with 4 seconds and swam a 2.16,10. " I had real fun swimming this race since this is one of my worst events and I had no expectations at all" The 1500m freestyle Swedish record was a 21.50 something so I knew I could do it but I also wanted to brake the 800m record on the way. A pretty good record of 10.30, so I knew I had to take out fairly fast but without killing myself. After all I also wanted to finish the 1500m! Said and done: first record went down at the 800m turn (10.17,10) and the second at the finish of the 1500m with over 2 minutes improvement with a 19.23,86! A good feeling. That the 50m and 100m breast records still stand (Swedish World Champion Ronny Oltner holds them) is a good challenge for the next time I swim. I have trained well and know the results will come.
